- Introduction:
- It was in this ordinary sandstone house in a quiet back street of Dumfries that Robert Burns spent the last three years of his life. He died here on 21 July 1796. The house is now a museum, retaining much of its eighteenth century character.

- Description:
- Robert Burns and his family moved into this house in May 1793. Their standard of living was good and they employed a maid servant. Well wishers would often send the family game or country produce and occasionally barrels of oysters.
